The first step of the native plant relocation process is to have us perform a native plant inventory on a site approved for development. We go to the site where we collect required plant data and map each plant. Typically mature trees with a trunk diameter of 4” or greater and cacti taller than 3’ are required to be inventoried.
We use GPS technology to locate the plant on the earth’s surface and collect other attribute information such as species, tag number, condition and size. The GPS data can be transferred to AutoCAD to create a map showing the plant location with its identifying tag number. This map can be overlaid on a digital aerial photograph along with the proposed site development layout to create a Native Plant Inventory Plan.
The GPS data can also be transferred to Excel to create a spreadsheet detailing the attribute information of the plants. The AutoCAD maps and Excel spreadsheets are then printed to create a professional presentation submitted to the client as part of their grading/building permit approval process.
